Sign Language Storytelling (RhymASL)
Background
Hearing parents and novice American Sign Language (ASL) learners often struggle to reproduce accurate ASL signs, explore ASL phonology, or create expressive signed stories.
Goal
ASL rhymes are characterized by shared phonological features such as handshape, location, and movement. We aim to design and probe an interactive system that supports the exploration of ASL phonology aspects, and creation of rhyming ASL stories via AI.
My Role
· Designed and developed an online ASL storytelling system supporting rhyming story creation via LLM
· Led semi-structured interviews with parents, ASL storytellers, and educators to probe system design
